How can you use your network to land your dream job?
Network in 360. Everyone is important. I know a General Counsel who was referred for her role in a new company by a more junior mentee of hers who already worked in the legal department there. Spread good vibes everywhere like seeds on the wind: You never know on what fertile ground they might land, take root, and grow!

How can you use your network to land your dream job?
People often think that they must always add new content of their own to engage on social media. This is actually a mistake. Not only can you/should you repurpose and repost your own previous content, you should share other people’s content, like and comment on their posts, congratulate them on their accomplishments. Not only does this show you to be an engaged, giving, well-connected “team player,” but hyperlinking other people’s names in your posts and comments exposes you to their networks in addition to your own and extends your relationship-building/brand-building reach.

How can you use your network to land your dream job?
Always offer to assist the person you’re speaking with however you can. Everyone can assist someone else in some way. You might be able to assist with volunteering for a non-profit/charity or provide insight on an issue from your different generational or other perspective. And always ask how they found their job: Which job board, which connection, which recruiter? And in addition to thanking them for their time and offering to keep them updated as to your progress, always ask them who else you should speak to, what other organizations, events, you should seek out. Your job search answer might not lie with this person. It might lie with the person this person recommends. Or the next. In this way, you build your information and network.

How can you use your network to land your dream job?
I find it a useful exercise to try to reverse engineer: Think of 3-5 locations (including the one you are in now) you would be interested in. Think of 3-5 industries (including the one you are in now). Think of 3-5 roles/job titles (including the one you are in now). Then, try to think of 3-5 specific companies to focus on based on the above: “X role in Y industry in Z location at ABC corporation.” Now focus on developing information, relationships, resumes, etc. with these ideal targets in mind. This may not be exhaustive as a process, but it gives you a focused start.
